An unforgettable saturday home tour.

While checking out options for our new home,we chanced up on this shop called Aadhi Arts at Teynampet.The store boasts of  beauties of the wooden kind.Such class.They deal in antique and colonial furniture and also reproductions in Burma Teak and Rose wood.The store owner Mr.Prabhakaran Sambandam is a very friendly and approachable person.He can enlighten you about any query you have on antiques.Apart from his business,photography is his main passion.He has such multifarious interest's I'm yet to find out more!Well last weekend he was very benevolent towards us.We just showed up at his store and without much ado we landed up at his home for a home tour.How cool is that.Check out some of the pictures I clicked. 

Home is where the heart is.I love these antique columns.It lends a unique charm to a home.

What an elegant door.The frames are made of teak wood and the main door made of rosewood.This is in the first floor which leads to the antique pillar in the first pic. 

                                

Another lovely door.This is the entrance to his architect daughter Harinee's room on the second floor.

Harinee's gorgeous study,with a nice lived in feel to it.

There were so many other things to be photographed like antique Tanjore paintings and panels and so many other artefact's .It will surely deserve another post.It is splendid indeed to wake up to these timeless beauties.I was too overwhelmed by the lovely home and the hospitality shown,I wish I could have taken better pictures.Thank you for making our evening so cherishable.

I'm so happy I got this blog going.I'm so glad to have made friends with Padmajaji.She is an awesome person, a philanthropist, a painter,a healer and an extremely spiritual person.Her enthusiasm for life is infectious.I'm running short of adjectives to describe this incredible person..Her work is definitely blessed by the divine.I had posted this picture for the salt and pepper fest.I had no clue,that Padmajaji would paint this for me and send it to me.I must have done something right to have gotten this gift from her.Its really a blessing to have spoken to her.I felt like she was talking to me from a very enlightened plane.Very Buddha like,very peaceful and calm.God bless her hands with more energy to churn out more paintings.She even infuses prayers into her paintings.Where can you find another dedicated artist like her.Thank you so much Padmajaji for your gift and your kind words.Its such a fabulous way to end this year.Your gift is priceless,you have made a family happy and proven to the world that people like you still exist.When I take a look at the painting above her eye for detail simply astounds me.I promptly offered this painting to Jagannathji of Puri when I received this.I'm sending this to the weekend wrap up post conducted by Patty because this painting rocked my Friday and to Srivallis event because this is one of my favourite blogging moments. 

Arty weekend

I'm so glad to be doing a post which is not related to the food we had on weekends.For a change we went to Poompuhar and the Dastkari haat.It was eye candy indeed.

The handicrafts development corporation of the Government of Tamil Nadu known as Poompuhar have an array of traditional brass lamps,tanjore paintings and rare bronze icons and much more.Worth a visit.

 We picked up a brass icon of Sai baba from here.

The Dastkari Haat@kalakshetra was another interesting craft, calligraphy, textiles and arts festival.We picked up Panch dathu bells and patachitra bottle craft.This was a fun evening.

Favourite Indian Handicraft

This tanjore painting depicting Goddess Durga with her oh so cute tiger, is one of favourite Indian Handicraft.I love this piece because I made it myself with a lot of help from my tutor.He used to come home everyday and teach me how to do it.I love the teak wood frame and most of all I love her vahanam.I made this specially for my MIL.She is into Lalitha Sahasranamam chanting.On Sunday she held the pooja at her home.See the pic below.This piece is close to my heart because it made my MIL happy.

Shake it with Salt and Peppa!

A girl cut in two! I couldn't help thinking of this French movie title, when I received this orange salt and pepper shaker as a gift.I think this was picked up in the U.S.This is going to the salt and pepper carnival happening at Scatter the batter. 

“It's the cook's nook’

This is a nook in my kitchen,which I have converted as a sanctified space!.Thanx to the lack of space in my "in transit" kitchen.When the key bunch people announced their party I thought it would be a no show from my side.Finally I persuaded myself to feature this nook.The lamps are facing the east.The Ganesh lamp is a panchaloham lamp(an alloy of five metals).The wooden stand is actually a  thai wooden game piece!The red and yellow terracota lamps are magic lamps.If  you turn this lamp upside down,there is a hole in the centre.You can pour the oil in there and use it as a regular lamp.The oil will not spill out!

Antiqued

 

This is an antique writing desk made entirely of rosewood.Gracing this table top with his August presence is the figurine of a 200 year old Buddha meditating. I do not know the name of the mudra he is using. Pls do throw some light on this.Both the antiques are a prized possession in our home now.I think He is the perfect mate for the this antique table.Let his wisdom dawn on me too! Thanks to M2 for having the vision to acquire it.This is my submission for Patty's Table Top August
